Simple and precise, it is the basis of many of the subsequent Gothic forms of calligraphy, including the contemporary Gothicized Italic script. Textura is also an important introduction to the calligraphy of many of the finest illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages. In this workshop, we will learn the characteristic forms of this ancient script and then will practice a looser, more informal approach to this most precise of all alphabets.
